I had a great experience at McAfee Inc., working on awesome projects and was also fortunate to work with a great manager. My manager motivated me get into open source development to improve my coding skills, and since then I have been work on Nmap. As of now I have done code analysis for Nmap and have also written and submitted three patches for the same. I would be submitting a fourth path by the time I finish this post.
The first three patches that I wrote dealt with various security issues with Nmap, and the fourth one deals with adding the capability to work with name servers listening on an IPv6 address for Nmap. Though the first three were challenging, the fourth one took me the most time as I had to figure out a way to setup and run DNS server listening on an IPv6 address. To address this problem I ended up using dnsmasq.
This is just the start of my work with the Nmap open source project. I hope to do much more work and contribute more actively to its development in the near future..
